Do you think vibrations from the earth caused the bridge to fall and the mines to cave in?
ndnquah asked:
Seems like it wouldn’t take an engineer to figure that out. What do you think?
I’m talking about the Utah mine! Sorry!

Actually the fact is that the bridge collapsed because it was under construction so some body made a mistake and every thing collapsed. The main thing u have to note is that don’t go through a bridge that is under construction. The bridges are made with a lot and lots of nuts and bolts so if any part of that is missing or has been rusted or some thing happened then it will eventually fall. But the bridges that are in California, actually not every bridge but for example the golden gate bridge is made to withstand the vibration of a really good quake. The golden gate bridge has gone through some of the qakes that have hit California but nothing happened to it .
So, the fact is we can make new bridges with new technology but it will cost us and the Govt a fortune. Even if we want to make a new bridge it will take a long time to crerate it .
That is already a given. Mechanical vibration in a bridge (from traffic) can cause fatigue in the structure, and without routine inspection and maintenance, can suffer from catastrophic failure.
Seismic waves traveling through the Earth can cause buildings, mines and even mountains to collapse.
Structural failure analysis takes into accounts all sorts of factors, including vibration.
I have designed a very simple warning system that will alert before major disaster takes place either in the bridge or in the buildings.Unfortunately even though it has helped in many occasions to fore warn the disasters scientists came forward to appreciate the designs and not prepared to approve the design. This instrument has helped me to issue the warning 2 hours before Tsunami struck our Indian coast. This instruments can be fixed in every bridge and buildings to fore warn the collapse.
