Bering Strait crossing by tunnel or bridge?
clophad asked:
Engineer for Golden Gate Bridge, Joseph Strauss, proposed crossing the gap between Alaska and Russia with a bridge, but with a tunnel like the one between England and France this would be a great place to redirect some of that money being wasted in Iraq.
Perhaps you would allow for another perspective? www.didik.com/highway/

A new bridge every year? and a tunnel to no where.
I would rather send more to Iraq.
Are you ready to convert to Islam?
that’s what Iraq is about, your freedom to think and act as you wish.
It would be an untter waste of money. There is not enough of a demand for travel across the straight to even justify a ferry service, much less a bridge or a tunnel which would cost hundreds of billions, if not a trillion dollars to build. Even if you think Iraq is a waste of money, why would we find an even less worthy cause to spend the money on. There would be no reason under heaven for such a pointless and wasteful expediture of money and man power.
Yes, I agree the money is being wasted in Iraq, but why waste it someplace else, Waste is waste. Look at a map or North Western Alaska and North Eastern Siberia. Do you see the thousands of miles of nothing from the cloasest city in Alaska to the closest city in Russia. A bridge or a tunnel serves no practical purpose
well think about it dude. have you been to that part of Alaska. there are no highways there yet lots of dirt roads and ice.i think a bridge over there would be a good thing but the money for the cost of it wouldn’t be made back for 100 years. for cars the toll would be to high take a plane its cheaper . for truckers what does Russia have for the USA notta.and everyone knows they don’t have no money. the government anyway .there is alot of billonares there but the goverment cant pay the employees they have. it would be a empty bridge
Never mind it’s impossible, never mind it’s just a misinformed opinion that money is being “Wasted”, Never mind Joseph Strauss was secondary to the actual design and was just in charge of the GGBridge project. Think on this: WHO IN THE HELL LIVES ANYWHERE NEAR EITHER END OF THE BERING STRAIGHT TO USE THE BRIDGE?!?!
When global warming really kicks in, the time will come for such a bridge. A Siberian New York will connect to a New Northern Vancouver.
You heard it first here.
